After graduating from Buffalo’s Canisius High School, Mike attended UB where he received a BS in Industrial Engineering in 1984. Michael proceeded to take a twenty-five year career journey helping the likes of Raytheon, Motorola, John Deere, and most recently Walt Disney Parks & Resorts with a focus on electronics manufacturing and continuous improvement. Mike authored and presented several papers focusing on business process performance and improvement methodologies and techniques.
Mike has improved effectiveness and efficiency in defense, avionics, automotive, cellular and agricultural industries. In 2005 Mike took his accomplishments in lean and six sigma and established Whataboutquality LLC, an independent business consulting firm through the NYS Entrepreneurial Assistance Program.
He authored and self-published his first book, Everything is a Process in 2008. This book makes it possible for any business leader in manufacturing, healthcare, non-profit or educational domains to take advantage of business process modeling, analysis and improvement used by the most competitive firms.
Mike returned to Buffalo 2009 and continued his work as a facilitator of operational excellence with organizations including BCBS / Healthnow, Upstate NY Transplant Services (unyts) and Elderwood Senior care. His accomplishments include work in strategic planning, business process management, requirements management and continuous improvement. Mike Recently helped Fidelis Care charter a program to introduce new ICD-10 diagnosis codes mandated by US Health & Human Services.
In 2010 Mike co-founded Fandemoneum, a sports and entertainment experience, celebrating the people of Buffalo and WNY through our deep and rich sports heritage. He has played a key role in our Buffalo Waterfront, participating in events to conceptualize and design our inner harbor and outer harbor.
Mike is also a certified enterprise architect, articulating the key components of any organization and how strategy, people, process and technology work together to achieve goals. He has now developed a new geodesic framework model, based on the work of R Buckminster Fuller.
In 2013 Mike wrote and self-published his second book, Building a New and Useful Buffalo. He uses the metaphor of a geodesic houseboat, built right here in Buffalo to demonstrate a simple, yet elegant framework to connect the key components of any enterprise. The effort explored how a city like Buffalo can accelerate its transformation by connecting their “silos of success.”
In 2011, Mike connected with Gene Morse Pharm D at the UB CoE in Bioinformatics to begin a conversation about simple, yet impactful ideas we could turn into solutions to give our WNY youth a chance to envision a future in life sciences and healthcare. That conversation led to the WNY STEM Hub.
He looks forward to supporting the development and deployment of WNY STEM Hub into a solution that gives youth a reason to grow, current workforce a reason to stay here and new talent a reason to re-locate to WNY.
Mike built the ultralight Life Pod recreational vehicle in 2015 and relocated to South Carolina. He now focuses on renewable energy and Net Zero housing (homes that make as much energy as they use). He and his fiancé, Tetiana, develop Net Zero Communities, which foster community growth, quality of life, new jobs and capital investment for growing and transforming towns and cities.
